Residual stress measurement

All forces that act on materials in absence of external solicitations, at uniform temperature conditions, are defined as residual stresses.
This type of stress is similar to a load stress, and consequently reduces the load capacity of the material during operation. An effective answer can be found only if residual stress measurement is determined quantitatively and qualitatively: the purpose of residual stress measurement is to give an effective quantification of this kind of stress.

It is therefore clear that residual stress measurement and analysis is important in mechanical design engineering as it can prevent mechanical equipment failures. SINT Technology is a laboratory specialized in residual stress measurement by strain gage methods. Its most significant experience is in:
  • Sachs´ boring-out method
  • Layer removal
  • Sectioning
  • Ring core method
  • Hole drilling method
For this last method of residual stress measurement analysis, with the strength of many years of experience in the field of strain gage measurements, programming and mechanical design engineering, SINT Technology has developed and patented a system for residual stress measurement(RESTAN – MTS3000, internationally marketed by HBM) that is fully automated and unique in its kind.
